Three Dark Crowns Review

Three Dark Queens
are born in a glen,
sweet little triplets
will never be friends.

This book was AMAZING. I devoured it in one sitting and it left me laying on the floor screaming about the cliffhanger ending!

Every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.
But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown.

This was a great read! The book starts with Katharine and you instantly fall for her - I was worried about how I'd feel about the other sisters as the story went on but I found myself feeling sorry for all of them. The wide range of background characters can get quite confusing especially when the girls are all in the same area for the Quickening. A genealogy chart at the front of the book would be really helpful for working out the links between the background characters but once I was halfway through the book I understood it a bit better!

There's a gorgeous map of the islands at the front of the book which is beautifully illustrated and is perfect for working out the locations of the sisters at various points in the story.

I really wish more books included maps and I can't wait to possibly see a map of the world outside the mists in the next book!

I think this book would be perfect for anyone who likes fantasy, intrigue and strong female leads. The next in the series One Dark Throne is out in September and I can't wait.

Let me know if you've read this book and who your favourite character is - I think Katharine is my favourite!

Here's the amazon link :)
